The charger's final voltage must match the battery specification precisely. Never test compatibility by connecting the charger and waiting to see whether the BMS blocks it.
Charging Current Must Suit Both Packs
If a single charger will be used with two approved batteries, its current setting must remain within the limit of both systems.
For example, if one battery accepts a higher current but the other pack, connector or BMS has a lower limit, the shared configuration must not exceed the lower approved value.
That may mean sacrificing some charging speed to preserve compatibility.
Connector Shape Is Only the Beginning
A shared physical connector can still hide a different pinout or signal requirement.
Check both battery diagrams for:
- Positive and negative positions
- Protective earth, if present
- Charge-enable pins
- CAN or data pins
- Temperature or identification signals
- Pre-charge behavior
An adapter is safe only when it is engineered for the voltage, current, polarity and signal mapping. A mechanical conversion alone is not enough.
Communication Can Prevent Sharing
Some battery systems accept standard constant-current/constant-voltage charging. Others require a wake-up signal, enable circuit or digital communication.
If one battery needs a control interface that the other does not use, a single fixed charger may be inappropriate even when the voltage and connector appear compatible.
